Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Football Insider revealed that the club are willing to offload Harry Wilson, following the emergence of Curtis Jones this season.
Wilson spent last term on loan at Derby under Frank Lampard, scoring an impressive 16 goals while also recording four assists – he has continued his fine form with a respectable seven Premier League goals for Bournemouth in the current campaign.
However, Football Insider believe that the Merseysiders – who value their academy graduate at £30m – think highly of the Wales international, but do not feel like he will be in contention for a first-team spot next season.
The news comes after Jones – a 19-year-old academy graduate – has scored twice in his three starts this season, all of which have come in the domestic cup competitions.
Jones has also played 19 minutes of Premier League football, and his long-range curler against Everton will surely be amongst the club’s Goal of the Season contenders at the end of the campaign.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about the news…
To kick off the reaction, these three supporters all mentioned the club’s Sporting Director Michael Edwards in their tweets.
Ghalib said that there is “another masterclass from Edwards incoming” – paying reference to the key figure’s ability to extract impressive fees for background players at Anfield, such as £19m for Dominic Solanke, £27m for Christian Benteke and £15m for Jordon Ibe.
Also, Jay said that if Edwards can get £30m for Wilson – a player with only one first-team appearance for the club – then he “needs a mad bonus”.
Elsewhere, another supporter said that this move would be a “big mistake” while another fan commented in contrasting fashion.
They said that people calling this a “big mistake” clearly haven’t watched Wilson play on a regular basis, before saying that the 22-year-old is “not a big prospect at all” and that he’s only good at limited parts of the game – ouch.
Lastly, another fan echoed that point.
@K_LFC8 said that Football Insider’s report was “good” as Wilson clearly isn’t good enough for us – they also added that the Welshman is “nothing more than a dead ball specialist” in harsh fashion.
What could’ve been… Can you name the clubs these football legends almost joined?
In other news, these Liverpool fans have reacted to an eye-catching moment from an ex-Red who is “miles better than Hendo”…
